Thanksgiving
Oh well, Thanksgiving break is almost coming to an end and in another 18 hours, school will resume as usual :( Its been a blast though, heading down to NYC again for thanksgiving break. I'm so glad I did exercised so much self-restraint this time round; I think I spent only 30% of my past fall break shopping budget. Besides H&M, most of the stores were rather disappointing, everything was pretty much the same old stuff that I've seen around months ago. But on retrospect, thats definintely such a good thing though; most of the money I spent this time round went into getting good food. Had char kway teow for the first time in months at this damn shiok Nonya restaurant along Chinatown on the first night which probably sounds all wrong having low-class hawker fare in the middle in this ang moh land, but heck it was cheap and I haven't had singapore-ghetto food in a long while. We had days of good stuff too like eating steak at this Brazilian restaurant (: The steak was so marbled with fat it practically melts in your mouth. Thinking about it now really makes me salivate especially when all I just had for brunch was some crap microwaved Chicken Stew. And in between the meals, we were eating nonsense like Green tea/sesame egg tarts + danish pastries + blueberry muffins + napoleons + papaya hot dogs + dunkin donuts which I swear has made me grown fatter. This time round, I managed to do more touristy sightseeing too albeit the extremely TERRIBLE weather. We were extremely unlucky to experience dreary rain and chillin' winds on Thanksgiving which made me sooo cold and tired. Not to mention having to brave all those winds on top of the stature of liberty and the empire state building... my umbrella was overturned umpteen times and became crooked at the end. Aside from the bad weather, it was fun just to be hanging out with good old friends again 20000 miles away from home. Still the same silly giggly girls in chic nyc crazy about shopping and being cheapo about the exchange rate :)
Well I guess I should just end it here with some photos from the trip :

flip-flops
For the first time in my life here, I suffer from imsomnia; I've been awake since 6am which is terribly ridiculous for college life standards. There's this sick feeling in my stomach which hasn't been around since 11th Aug (the second last day of life in Singapore). After scouring Collegetown area for the entire week till sundown, I haven't gotten any returns on housing. The worst thing is that things are moving so quickly which means that I may lose my dream house. And my group :(It's starting to finally snow for real. Yesterday was a pretty bad day when I woke up late and missed Pysch lecture (again) and when I saw the workers shovelling ice off the pavement, I wanted to kick myself for missing the first real 'snowstorm'. The roofs are finally lined with snow, ditto to the trees too, which makes everything here look less like the Blair-witch-project and more like the-shining. Trust me, balding trees without snow or leaves and gothic architecture buildings compose the perfect settings of a horror movie in Ithaca.
In another 24 hours time, I'll be heading off to meet sy in the big city. Finally, something/someone that would give the familiar feeling of home. Its really a long well-deserved break after all the hardcore mugging and paper rushing over the past week. And yesterday I've got my little epiphany on my final project; I've decided to have my thesis on how Vogue Fashion Photography reflects the changing role of women during WWII. I was pretty amazed when I searched through the Cornell Library catalogue and there are actually archived records of Vogue since its first published date...that way I wouldn't really have to worry much about my visual sources. I 'worked' at the library too after lunch on Monday by giving feedback for their new webpage design and got paid 10USD just for 15 mins of my time. Sweet :D
And here's a little blooper from Econs class yesterday:
Prof : Our department throws like 10 seminars every month and each time we invite our guest speakers to restaurants around Ithaca. Cornell is like a monopsonist of the dining sector here.
Yeah, so another clue to where all the tuition dollars have been heading too.. entertaining old fogies with foie gras and Cabaret. XD

emancipation
Oh yays the weekends are here again. Time to take a breather, recharge before its my well-deserved loooong thanksgiving break (and of course, FINALS in a week's time; but wth, whining for that can come later). I realized that I'm always blogging at the wrong wrong times. Like when I'm supposed to be reading my journals on Enola Gay and the Smithsonian (yeah, American controversies...how I wish school was more inclusive and international) and I'm ending up here unleashing my crap, aka whining about schoolwork and homework and academic bull because I have a 7 page essay due and my brain is really like mush at the moment.I broke my no-eating-out dinner rule AGAIN and I should seriously be smacking myself over the lack of discipline and the extravagance. But then again, it was barely buffalo chicken calzone at some pizza palour which I have been so desperately trying to avoid (together with freshman-15). Like its really true that food here makes you fat with all those cheese and dairy glob they spread all over everything conceiveable... an extremely difficult test of self-control especially in the Marche-style dining halls.
I really want to write about alot of other things; but I think I should just keep my thoughts floating around first instead of sharing them here. I can't wait for Thanksgiving though, finally going to meet up with an old friend and then we can all be so chummy and giggly again half a globe away from home. (:
Yeah, and now back to the Enola Gay controversy...zzzz

Today's seriously the first time I've gotten all so nervous with all the stomach doing flip-flops thing which I thought would never haunt me again since JC life. I don't know whether to feel happy or sad about the essay or the screwed Macroecons prelim. Oh well, maybe I should just get back to Psych so that it won't be this terrible tomorrow.ilovetotwirl at 12:24 PM

hectic, hectic
I so need to work on my workload for this weekend. 2 prelims and an essay on the Hiroshima bombing to get started on... but don't worry, I reckon I'd survive as usual. I did alot of time-wasting things today, and by the time I finally got down to work at 3pm (when the sun starts to set... see how horribly screwed the combo of winter + daylight savings is. Its pitch black outside at freaking FIVE pm) it was time again for dinner out with the girls at some fancy Italian restaurant. We tottered around in high heels (seriously wearing them for the FIRST time since I got here because the terrain here is far too nasty for heels) BUT had to walk in the damn rain all dressed up while getting to the pick-up point. Dinner was worthed it, with the Butter-garlic mushrooms + soup + Italian dressed salad + Stuffed Sole Entree (which tasted fishy) for 20 bucks. But I shouldn't even be eating out at all with my current attachment to a Meal Plan. All these extra unnecessarys is drawing me into a serious financial crisis now. 400USD from now till the end of Spring Semester... and all these eating-out nonsense and tipping and random donations ain't helping my purse strings at all. I've decided to work (a little bit) and get random jobs to earn money. One of which includes getting interviewed on the library system and getting paid 10USD for 20 minutes of my time. (school is blardy good at wasting our tuition fees)Anyways, I sat down and talked with the people and did some planning for Winter Break, which means that I wouldn't be going home at all this Dec. Boohoohoo :( I thought it would be great for me to fly home after christmas and California but apparently it would too great a waste of money to do something so extravagent as that. A holiday OR home. Guess ultimately I'll be choosing the former = California + Mexico. Talking to my parents over the phone today, my mum was complaining how she hasn't gotten down to visiting Vivocity 'cos there's no one to go with her. And how she hasn't been shopping alot without me around. She kept asking me not to put on weight (because your clothes won't fit) and I thought it was funny 'cos she just didn't want to say that she didn't want to have a fat daughter. And my poor brother won't have any siblings to celebrate his 21st birthday with because everyone is halfway across the globe. And how I miss each and everyone of you and my nice big bed. BUT, the flight to California is booked and I guess its going to be a looong countdown to summmer.
Anyways, my wooziness from the heavy dinner is gone and I should really stop all this nonsense + digression. Back to Psych!
And photos from the Singapore food fest, MAKANMANIA which I didn't bother uploading gazillion years ago (:

Today i felt all so fuzzy wuzzy and fell in love with a house. I was envisioning how nice it would be, to watch the snowflakes float down on the porch, and I'd have all my black-and-white photography nicely displayed on my bedroom wall, with the vintage Tiffany lamp to light up my little room in the dark. And there's this nice extra room that we'll be great for housing visitors, and the living room that we could use to throw house parties and makanmanias.but why oh why can the singaporeans not see all this; why do we have still have to stay in hdb flats 2000000 miles away from home. sheesh im such a long-extinct hopeless romantic.

And yesterday, on the way to Psych class, this reindeer (with antlers so i knew it was a deer and not some dog/horse/whatever) sprinted out of no way into the Aq. quad. It so made my day =D
