bummer

The past 2 weeks have been pretty terrible weeks. Chinese New Year was such a big disappointment :( I'm jealous, of course that cultural holidays do get celebrated back home with friends, families and hongbaos. Here, even no-brand pineapple tarts that I wouldn't even bother to lay fingers on become a novelty to covet. Aside from the lack of festivities here, the reunion dinner was totally bland. The food at best could be described as something ordered from the Chinese High Canteen...I'm waiting for the day someone learns to make silky simmering porridge so that my can of abalone can come in handy ;)

Sat for a couple of tests and prelims over the last week which was a horrible experience. Quite honestly, I haven't been doing well in school and thats one more agenda on my list that I have to get started on. Its not like I haven't been a good student going for lectures, faithfully taking notes, handing in assignments, consulting TAs during Office Hours, which makes things alot more sucky and sometimes I keep thinking about how its just me which makes things so screwed up. And that the its just me self-reproach mentality keeps popping up in all aspects of my life. My social life is getting screwed and somehow there's this awful sense of the lack of control over my life. If only people would learn to let go, surely thats the best gift that we can bestow on others?

But thankfully, love prevails and there are still some positive bits in my life which keeps me going when the going gets tough. Knowing that there are people to walk beside me makes me feel that things really aren't so bad after all. One of my (very) sweet girlfriend gave me a photo album with a compilation of my dreams for Valentine's Day:

To beer guzzzle in Munich . French Kiss in Paris . Eat Sushi in Hokkaido. Scuba Dive in Phuket. Bungee Jump in Cairns. Catch an Aurora Buorealis in Finland . Climb the great wall of China . Chill at home in Singapore .

And how nice it would be if all the above could come true now. Especially the very last one ;) I can sense the mid-term lethargy slowly creeping up on me...and I need my Spring Break quick-fix now. Urgh.

And of course, wishes from bleary Ithaca, belated of course.

Happy Chinese New Year

total yayness

Oh my god I can't describe how happy I am right now. Yesterday, I was telling my Resident Advisor how happy I would be if school got cancelled today. And she flatly debunked me by telling me that it has never happened before in Cornell. Today I woke up just 10mins before my 8.40am class, and as I tried to wear my jeans + comb my hair + brush my teeth, I looked out the window and was so sad to see kids still heading out to campus. Walking out of the dorm, I was terribly disappointed that the snow was only up to calf-level; I was so hoping that it would reach our chins so that school would be cancelled. So after trudging through an early morning class and a boring lecture, I gave up on the thought that school would be cancelled.

BUT MIRACLES DO HAPPEN! It's still hellava snowing outside and the pavements and roads have disappeared. Cars are trapped. Professors are stuck somewhere. Workers can't shovel snow fast enough. Snowmans are being erected across the quads. So school's now officially closed from 1230pm today all the way till 5am tomorrow.

I'm going to be a good girl, finish up my essay and quiz revision, so that we'll all be able to head out for some fun tonight ;) Happy Valentine's Day :D

vday wish

Pls oh please let the weather forecast be true; let the snowstorm brew tonight and the 16 inches of snow to come true. Please let school be cancelled for the first time in 45626 years so that I can enjoy Valentine's Day snuggled under the bed in peace. Please let all the snow shovellers break down and the maintenance workers to be stuck on some highway so that snow will pile up on the pavements and it would be impossible for us to make it to campus. I seriously need a miracle tonight and my best hope is the crappy weather. Urgh.

And damn, why the hell did it stop snowing outside. WE NEED MORE SNOW NOW!
